What Is Infrared Heating?

Infrared heaters heat spaces with heat transfer by radiation. Just like the sun, it will heat people, floors, tools, vehicles, and any other objects in a space. Those objects then re-radiate heat with convective energy to the space.

What is included with an Infrared Tube Heater?

Most low intensity style heaters come with a burner, emitter (tubes), an engineered radiant reflector (shield) to direct all the energy down towards the mass below.

Why choose Infrared over Hot Air Heaters?

Different buildings and spaces have very different needs and can call for different types of heating systems.

When you have a bigger “box style” building, or spaces that have many roll up doors that open frequently. Or even if noise, stratification, dust movement, or operating costs could be an issue, infrared heaters may be for you.

Like we said earlier, Infrared heats the mass (concrete floor) not the air. So, when a door opens not all the energy flies out of the space. Sure, some convective heat gets lost, but the bulk of the energy used in the space is still in the mass and will help the space recover to temperature a lot faster than a heater trying to heat and replace all that lost warm air.

What Are The Most Important Factors In Deciding On A System?

  • Application, application, application! What are your needs in the space? Are you spot heating or space heating? Do you want it 20 C in the space or just above freezing? Let Hydronic HVAC ask these important questions to suggest a system, we don’t expect you to be an expert, but we are.

  • Layout, layout, layout! You may put in a Infrared System and be not happy with the outcome. Take that same system and place it in the space properly and get totally different results. Contact Hydronic HVAC to get your personnel professional layout showing you where to place it and the heating footprint. We have been helping Engineers, Contractors, and Building owners for over 30 years.
